jinsley
Hi all! Project I posted on before, has been revised quite a bit and I tried to improve on alot of things. Two of the comments I get alot on my renders from this community have to do alot with grass texture and lack of good reflections, so I spent a little more time than usual on the grass and tried the promaterials glass for mental ray. I still have to finish painting in the entourage and a few touch-ups here and there, but I have a few days so let me know what you think! Thx -JI
innerdream
Good job so far. I think the sun on the face of the building facing the viewer would help.
jameson101
Looking good, The reflections look great! your grass is good, i know how hard it is to create grass for these type of images. Just a couple things I have noticed, your pavement is extremely white, a grey cement would help alot. You need to put in a different type of tree, its a bit of an eye sore when you see the same around the buiding and on top of the one building. The building looks great a very beautiful design. parker2740
Looks good so far. Since the sky varies dramatically, I would expect the building to vary somewhat from the bottom to the top, maybe lighter at the top to give it more dimensionality. jinsley
thx guys for the input! much appreciated... jameson101 - "...different type of tree, its a bit of an eye sore..." I agree totally, I went from 4 or 5 tree types to the one after a partner requested it, because he is worried that "...if we go beyond something generic then the city will make us provide what we present to them...". Also adjusted the sun and the colour tone of the sky relfection as you go up the building... Thx for the help! Only one more view to go...
neil poppleton
I think you need to look at the sky, it does not help the image. look at reference images / photographs and try and replicate. The sky for me just does not work.
neko
james. you're obviously reluctant to model/render the context, and i can understand that, but it looks a bit barren. perhaps some semi-transparent massing for the surrounding buildings just to give it more of an urban feel ? otherwise quite good. cheers paul
Frosty
I agree with Paul....some site buildings are needed to flesh it out. I typically run out to the site, snap a few photos, and map them to some basic geometry. I also think you have the sun in an awkward position for the camera angle - they are nearly aligned. Try setting up the sun so that it is at approx a 45-90 angle to the camera. This will create some shadows across the image and not into it - adding some depth. The gradient effect on the tower is very nice.
jinsley
thx guys, would have loved to re-render with the Sunlight source off to the left a little, but it was causing some shadows in the courtyard I didn't like... I agree about the context, but there isn't really anything over 1 level residential for blocks around this site... Paul, you might know the area, its out around the King George Skytrain... lots of trees and small single-family residential. I tried to give the final image a little more depth by painting in the city tree reserve in behind and added in the mountains out towards Hope which I noticed I could see in a few of the context photos I took of the site... Thx all for the help and comments! -JI
