n812
Hi all, I am an intermediate Rhino user, trying to teach myself Max. I am having a bit of difficulty trying to get my closed polyline to extrude as a solid object. In Rhino, I would simply extrudesolid - but in max I can only get the lines to extrude. (center is left as a void) I went through about 90% of the modifier stack without much luck. I should mention that I tried the 'cap' option and also that my polyline is of a section and i am extruding horizontally to gain width. If anyone has any suggestions, they would be appreciated. BrianKitts
you just need to make sure all your vertices are welded, when they are it will extrude solid.
Peter M. Gruhn
And selecting all vertices and hitting weld hasn't always worked for me. Have to go in and start moving individual vertices until one doesn't come along with itself. BUT I have found it easier to move segments which as the added bonus of moving two vertices in one op. BUT I have found it even easier to just select the spline subobject and use the Outline tool; this will make the discontinuity show up nicely (offset in ACAD works nicely for PLines). BUT I'm betting that your problem is not welded vertices (which it may well be) but rather self intersection at that knife edge. The curve down probably sticks up just a bit for just a little while above the horizontal line. This will prevent capping.
rmccoy
you can use the shape check tool to check your spline and it will show you exactly what needs to be fixed.
Peter M. Gruhn
I keep forgetting about that. It's on the utilities tab (create, hierarchy, motion, display, utilities) and then there under the More button. Thanks for the reminder.
n812
Thank you all fixing the self intersection, then welding worked
