hair dynamics and spring

A little OT for an architecture board, but enh...

 

I've been doing some hair work recently and among my problems is hair that has some ability to behave flexibly and react dynamically to motion YET have enough spring in it that it will return to a rest position. My options seem to be:

 

- not stiff enough so that when moved it collapses and falls prey to gravity

- so stiff that it just acts like a board

 

Now, I recognize that the hair spray people have been dealing with this problem for years but it doesn't have to be a problem on the computer. The hair knows where it started and the hair could find its way back there if it so chose.

 

I have yet to find the "So Chose" button. Is it there or is the only place movable hair can return is gravity rest?
