It's interesting to note that autodeath just released another photomatching plugin for max recently.. To be honest i've never been able to get the camera match utility to be effective! For me it's easier to work the model into a viewport background manually.

Now if you want a workaround... export a camera and some reference geometry from sketchup! that photomatch utility is extremely easy to use.

We've been asked to do 10 - 12 comps that could hold up in court. Is there someone out there who has done alot of this type of compositing work with 2d images that knows of extremely accurate techniques or software for camera matching?

Having done visual impact studies for 15 years...

I have never found camera match to be of any help.

And if you are going to court - as I have many times - you had better be super accurate and able to document each step that led you to the conclusion.

You will find yourself playing with some big kids who are capable of tearing apart your study if they can.

Oppositions can get really nasty and the ramifications of finding the "as built" does not match the visual impact study can be even nastier.

(btw be sure to carry some heavy liability insurance)

First you might have a look at a thread I started here in Feb. '07 about visual impact studies and using field references.

For more help contact me with a PM and I will send more info.
