Hi All,

I have a question with regards to line work imported from acad,Now i would like to know if i should do double poly lines for the walls to represent the thickness or just single lines then extrude them to represent the thickness of the interior and exterior walls in max,Any help is greatly appreciated.

I normally do my external walls as double lines (or single line then offset it) in autocad with a vertex at each door or window opening. that way when I extrude it in max the vertical lines are already there to form the openings.

For internal walls I normally use a single poly line and set the width to 150mm or whatever you need, then it comes in as a double line in max ready to be extruded.

we use layers to break down our linework... then file link the reliant layers and add modifiers to turn them into 3d. The nice thing about this technique is that updates to the dwg need only to be 'refreshed' in max. The downside is that cad linework needs to be well organized and make full loops (ie be closed... but you can set the welding so that they need not be 'perfect')

Hi, I really like the idea of file linking to my acad drawings,Then being able to update any new additions in max ,I also understand the importance of clean line work/closed plines and will be looking into the weld options in max further,But for now its just me creating the line work in acad so it tends to be as i like it anyhow.

Great suggestions so far please feel free to keep em comming !!:)
