i am new hear, so hello to everybody.

my problem is that i have a ls-file which before was a 3ds-file with only one texture. i´d like to import this file to 3dsmax, but the radiosity-data always fails. 3dsmax imports only the lights! do anybody know that problem? I just made the tutorial of lightscape. amyway i am still feeling like a newbee.

fanx, for any help.

I am not home at this moment but take a look at my post in the Autodesk Viz forum here. It will give you an idea. Basically I recall that materials, radiosity, and geometry were blanked out. In your case you need all three enabled. So all references to those need a 1 in the .ini

ismael,

thank you for your supply! i could´nt figure out yet why 3dsmax cannot import the ls-file. when i turn on the radiosity, geometry and material in the .ini and start then 3dsmax the import window is still the same! no possibility to change geometry radiosity and material. perhaps i have to reinstall 3dsmax. :-(

so long, when i have it i´ll post it here.

Hi christopher,

I don't think your Max install is corrupted, so I wouldn't advise re-installing. Can you post a screen shot of your Lightscape viewport showing the rad solution and then a shot of what comes into Max?

Hi Christopher,

Here are the entries in the lightscape.ini file (located in the plugcfg folder of your Max installation).

ImpGeometry=1

ImpRadiosity=1

ImpMaterials=1

Double-check that they are set like this. That is the only plausible explanation. Hope that fixes things, but it sounds like you alreay tried that?

unbelievebale, it was the illumination map. dont know why it is not possible to import that, but for this time it doesn´t matter. thanx a lot for your help! cu christopher.

Doh! :p I think the illumination map is imported by default (maybe?), and the toggle is for importing only the illumination map. That would be for the occasion when the geometry of the scene hasn't changed.

I think your scene will come in all dark unless some of the illumination is stored in the mesh in LS.

"Store Direct Illumination" is an option for all lights in Lightscape. You access it for luminaires by right-clicking and selecting Luminaire Processing. You can set it for Sun/Sky in the Daylight Parameters dialog. Skylight is stored by default. I'd keep it that way if I were you. You can grow old and die waiting for skylight to raytrace. :)

It's something you can play with in a test scene to see what you like.
