Jonny English
Here's one that is puzzling me... If I introduce advanced lighting into the model and render it's ok. However if I then want to go back to using default lighting by inactivating the advanced lighting and turning off any light sources then the render just renders black...any ideas? Jonny English. Jonny English
...but is there a way to get the deault lights back again if you turn off the lights in your scene??? Jonny English
Arnel
I don't think that is possible unless you delete again all your lights. As long as your lights are in the scene whether on or off it will disable the max default lighting. However, i'm not sure if your concern can be done using maxscript. Jim Mann
Just increase the level of ambient light. Its not quite the same as the default lighting but I am presuming that you are turning all your other lights off so as to do some quick test renders - in which case it should do the trick. Jennifer
Hi, There is an option under the 'Views' pull-down menu that says "Add default lights to scene". First you need to go to the viewport configuration and turn on the "Default Lighting" checkbox, and select one or two lights. The 'Add Default...' option is greyed-out until then. Then select the 'Views->Add Default...' menu option, then tell it what you want added: Key and/or Fill lights. Jonny English
Thanks all, I think Jim got the idea of what I was trying to do - i.e. have a simple lighting rig to do some quick test renders - I will try that Jim, thanks. The suggestion about adding deault lighting from view would not work for my needs as I believe it adds physical lights to the scene. Thanks again, Jonny English. Jennifer
Hi Jonny, Yes, that adds physical lights to the scene. Turning up the ambient does make for a very flat-looking rendering, so it depends on if you want the scene to look shaded, or "colored".
rdesrosiers
Is it possible that you have radiosity on? I am new to all of this (in school) but I have found that this has happened to myself and just unchecking the active box, and or reseting the radiosity in the advanced lighting will bring back the default lighting?
