JPS
"Parallax"?.... So in otherwords I have to play with the camera and cameras target till I get the right look? Is there or is there not a standard camera correction like in Viz under (Modifiers>Camera Correction)? I don't see this option in Max?....

Christopher Nichols
A perspective "correction" lense which actually distorts the reality of the camera is achieved by bending the image plane so that it is no longer parallel to the nagative. Basically think of your camera is a piramid with the eye being the top of the piramid. You want to bend the viewing plane so that the image pane is perpendicular to the ground. While there are scipts to help you do this, you can actually do it by applying a simple "taper" modifier to your camera.... try it!
quizzy
or you can do it by applying a skew modifier in the Y-axis, but it screws up the refelctions...
dinhtuan
You can use ViztoMax tool to copy Camera corection from VIZ4 to max5.

It will NOT screw up reflections in VIZ 4 SP2 or in 3dsmax 5. It may cause problems with previous versions. quizzy
Wow Alex, That would be a great improvement, I had that error in MAX4.26 didn't try it in MAX5 yet...
Christopher Nichols
Just one note... the best way to get this result would be the render it with the camera perpendicular to the ground. move back or zoom out so that your entire building occupies the image, and when you are done rendering, crop out the bottom of the image. That way the image is not distorted at all. This method also works best for animations. Ever try to render an animation with a PC lense on it? Very Zaha looking. ingo
Originally posted by Christopher Nichols: ... move back or zoom out so that your entire building occupies the image... The problem is that this gives you a different perspective, and in case of zooming you loose some depth, but that depends on your project. Otherwise i have to agree that doing this and rendering only the top half of the image is a good solution.
Christopher Nichols
Originally posted by ingo: The problem is that this gives you a different perspectiveThat is exactly my point... it gives you a correct perspective as opposed to a perspective correction... I think that horse is pretty dead, and even starting to smell... but yet, I still keep beating it... why do I do it?!?
dustbot
Technical Camera Modifier V0.9 By Frido Nahon available at http://tdp.nu/index.shtml This has been around for a while and works great. Just drop it onto your camera as a modifier and adjust the spinner to your pleasure.
