tsimon
Anybody know of any tutorials out there on modeling fancy stuff like one-piece porcelain toilets? I'm not sure where to start; I guess it's box modeling, but I'm worried I'm not going to get those nice aerodynamic curves in the end. I've also thought about starting from top-side-front splines, but proboolean is giving me crashes. Thought I'd seek out some tips before I wrestle with it. Thanks This is the one I'm working on, Toto Pacifica:
Peter M. Gruhn
http://digitalapprentice.net/Community/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=67&Itemid=154&mosmsg=Item+successfully+saved. He advocates starting from a plane not a box and I can't speak to that, but I learned a lot from those videos. And I have to watch them another few times more because there's stuff I forgot or didn't pick up. I'm sure there's others, but you could do worse than checking YouTube. "How to box model" is popular. http://www.cgtalk.com too.

tsimon
@peter: Thanks so much for the great tutorials, that's stuff I've been wondering about for a long time. Architectural modeling so rarely goes into that kind of thing, but I think it's important to understand your tools at the very least. That guy is a wizard. @antisthenes: Yeah, Rhino might be able to handle it more easily, but it's far from impossible to do in max, and that's what they've given me a license for. Thanks for the advice, though.
Antisthenes
or Maya. but the fundamentals are the same between the types of modeling it is just a matter of witch one gives you a manufacturerable model with precision i figure, witch is not always needed often times to save from expensiveness I'll put out a nice final low poly mesh that looks good with smoothing. Reuven
Hi Tom Simon There is a tutorial, to create the toilet seat in Rhino format, including complete wire frame for all items, in 3D space it is fully completed inside and out. It include free download for the beginning of the seat. 3D max can open Rhino files, try it with the free download.
