mikes8500
I'm working on an animation, frame of which I've attached, done in Max 2009 and Vray. I have a few questions... There are going to be several animated cameras in the file. One of the paths goes through the gate and through the doors of the main entrance. I was going to animate them opening. Should I use a rotation reaction controller, so that they open on proximity to the camera? I tried but was having a hard time making it work, they would both open at the same time.. Also there are going to be several other cameras that at some point pass by the gate, or have a distant view of it. I don't want them to move then, how do you guys control that? The material colors are still being tweaked, the stucco especially, and the roof. Is the best way to deal with this using Render elements and assign the objects with the material that will change to it's own channel, and modify in After Effects? If I get it right I only get 3 materials I can change this way? Many thanks Mike
BrianKitts
It's easier just to keyframe your doors opening when the camera passes by. But if you want my full opinion.... don't do it, it's cheesy a not really that impressive.... not to mention it will cause you to have to render using the animation prepass modes due to the changing GI in the animation for vray. Have you completed an animation in vray yet? If you haven't I highly recommend getting over the hurdle of doing a static animation before you try any moving parts. I'm more impressed by good camera work that showcases the architecture then animated doors or even worse turning on and off lights. There's a thread here on the boards where we all posted the big do's and don'ts of animation... might want to give this a read... http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/22366-animation-mistakes-no-nos.html#post154312 Edited January 27, 2009 by BrianKitts
