Taking advantage of my graphic card 3ds max

Recommended Posts

Hi, i have a good workstation, but somehow, i feel that my navigation in max could take advantage of my graphic card, which is a Nvidia Quadro GFX 4600.

what are the usual settings to look into in order to fluidify the max display ? if you know specifically about this card, this would be nice too.

for the moment, i only enabled the '3ds max' feature in the nvidia control panel. it's way more speedy than with my previous workstation, i deal with millions of triangles as if it was 100 faces. but as soon as i place textures, the navigation slows down dramatically.....that's dramatic.

Thanks.

What 3D display mode is Max in? First thing I'd try is using Maxtreme (download from nVidia web site).

The mode in max is

"3ds Max Performance DriverDirect3D 9.0 (NVIDIA Quadro FX 4600)"

i was in deed wondering about this maxtreme (wouldn' be the same as the Performance driver i use ?).... i go check right now.

Thanks

it seems there is no maxtreme for vista 64 anyway.... yes i forgot to say i was using Vista 64, wich i enjoy very much for the moment, except for this maxtreme problem. I hope Nvidia will release a version.

i keep investigating.

Maxtreme for Vista is part of normal graphics driver since version 169.96. When you install normal drivers, maxtreme installs automatically. When you launch 3DS Max for the first time after installation of Nvidia drivers, you get Nvidia Performance Driver Setup (this is the official name for Maxtreme). It works exactly the same way with Autocad.

So when you have in your 3DS Max "3ds Max Performance DriverDirect3D 9.0 (NVIDIA Quadro FX 4600)" mode selected, you are using Maxtreme already. You can anytime switch to "normal" DirectX 9c driver or back to Performance driver(Maxtreme).

In the latest Nvidia drivers (181.20) is the Maxtreme driver updated, but I didn't noticed difference.

For me is Maxtreme always faster, but it doesn't support shadows in viewports and also I have problems with selecting overlapped objects in viewport (must be something with Z-depth). With "normal" DirectX driver the selecting overlapped objects is much easier.

I have Quadro FX5600, Vista 64bit.
