Tommy L
Hello folks, Quick question about something about which I have very limited knowledge.... Ive been asked to provide content for a website, but I dont know (and neither does the client) how the site works. Its going to be a question of the blind leading the blind. http://www.leoburnett.com/ If anyone knows how this site was built, any info at all would be much appreciated. Especially how the 3d model (text) was integrated into Flash(?).
shaneis
Looking at the source code for the site, it's just a SWF object. You could go either of two ways - render a 360deg animation and export as SWF (or let the web designer stitch it) or use something like this http://www.erain.com/products/plug-ins/ If you go with the plain render option, you'll need to render a turntable series (perhaps in 5deg increments) and do the same for the inclinations (perhaps up 5 deg, then 360 deg at 5 deg increments). While you're at it, tell him his "super cool flashy thing" bites the big one. One of the most annoying UI's I've ever used... Maybe tell him that after you get the cheque

Nic H
one of the worst websites i have ever navigated tbh! id render out frames and give them to the web designer if you dont want to waste alot of time fiddling around in flash
ihabkal
I used to design websites, I thought these flashy weird effects are cool. After a few years I tend to prefer ease of use over flashy.
Claudio Branch
Hmmm...Pretentiousness and clunkiness all in the same place. How DID they do it?
Magnus_Alexander
yeah, it's almost like they hired architects to conceive the idea!
vizfx
Hi The new Flash CS4 http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/features/?view=topnew and Action Script3 have some true 3D potential which can be further developed with the help of plugins similar to PaperVision. One of the best sites made with Flash and pre-rendered images is http://actioncity.la/stage.html , http://www.thestuntman.la/ Adobe has another product which is more advanced in the 3D field, Director, but the development of this product has many lacks even if they announced the continuity of the product. http://www.adobe.com/products/director/ Still remains to see if Director 12 will rise again to be a true leader of the market. Scott Erstad
I was looking at this product a couple years ago and it seemed like a nice way to bridge the two platforms... Swift 3d http://www.erain.com/
Horhe
Ive worked with Vecta 3D, a pretty basic program that lets you import 3DS animation sequences, such as text rotation, that outputs it to either wireframe, shader or both in vector graphics to flash format. Pretty fast, not much fuss, just import anim or model and choose some of the presets. That was 3 - 4 years ago, along with Swift 3D that was in the early versions. There youve got some basic presets if you really want to get a rotation/zoom effect with text or shapes in a hurry, as well as a animation editor where you do what you want. As Scotty mentioned, you could look into both (though Im not really sure where Vecta 3D has gone since then).
