Paul Twyman
Hey, Has anyone else had this problem? I'm using max 2009 Design I found the following thread on here but no solution. http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/30558-no-render-preview.html One minute it is fine then I go to use it again and nothing happens, it just appears black. (it's not just that my exposure setting are to low) It doesn't work with any of the exposure controls. I have been putting up with it for awhile but it's getting really annoying now am I doing something really stupid!!!!
Paul Twyman
Just found a way to fix it so I am guessing it is something to do with mental ray. Just changed renderer to scanline to see if it worked ok then and it did. Then changed it back and now it is fine again. Must have reset something in Mental Ray. pfbreton
An unfortunate bug related to mental ray causes this: when using too low antialiasing settings, its turing black. Increase the sampling quality for the preview and it will go back to normal
Peter M. Gruhn
Woo, Pierre, thank you. I'll add that turning up minimum before maximum is worth doing.

Paul Twyman
Hi, Just your normal sampling settings, min and max in the render dialogue. There are no preview specific ones. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Cesar R
For some reason this did not work for me unless I am so lost that I am playing w the wrong setting.
Paul Twyman
Have you tried changing to scanline renderer and back again to see if it fixes it? If that doesn't work I'd probably suggest that it might be something to do with your settings. Does it look ok when you do a normal draft render through the frame buffer? Paul Twyman
Do you not have a previous scene you can save a preset from and import? (look in your autoback if not) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Cesar R
um.. preset for Gi and FG settings? - you can save those to a file?
Paul Twyman
At the bottom next to the big Render button. Open up drop down and save/load preset. Will give you option of what to save. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
