hi guys, I have got this interview coming up. the company uses vectorworks and I'm guessing they also render with it. I dont really no much about it, but will download a trial and have a play.

I come from a max and vray background with autocad, so what can I expect from this software? I see it has its own GI engine, that worries me because I cant see it being as fast or reliable as vray/mental ray for large production scenes.

Renderworks is the name of VW's rendering package and I fully agree with Sindala. I have used VW for a long time and Renderworks since it was incorporated into VW. VW is very fast for modeling most archviz objects with ordinary forms. In the time I have been using Cinema 4D, and importing VW objects with the exchange plugin (very easy!), the RW package has been improved, I believe. I do not know how improved it is. Check out their site: http://www.nemetschek.net/

I am extremely satisfied with my VW/Cinema 4D/VrayForC4D combination and do not plan to go back to Renderworks.

If the original poster comes from a MAX and/or AutoCAD background, then you better be prepared for the awfulness that is VectorWorks.

Easily one of the worst 3D apps that I have had the displeasure of using over the years, and I am no 3D n00b either - I would say I am an advanced user in both MAX and AutoCAD, and I also know SolidWorks and Inventor and a few others.

Is the newest version of VW better? Lord, I hope so - the last version I have used is 10 but we have a couple of copies of 12 in the office and that version looks similar.

I have used Vectotworks (10) in the past and now use Archicad/Max/vray. This is very stable. Vectorworks was great for producing 2d working/colour presentation drawings, but for 3d, had a clunky outdated navigation process compared to Archicad and Max. Cinema4d is very intuitive to use however and coupled with Vray should be a good combination. I would model mostly in C4D given the option.
