Crazy Homeless Guy
I think you need to work on the way the wash is applied. Right now it is applied to the entire image consistenly. The brush strokes are not effected when the color changes. If yuo were doing this with a physical medium, the brush strokes would not work this way. They would change as the colors change. If you apply the wash to the digital image in a similar fashion, it will feel more natural. One way to do this would be to render out a Material ID pass, that can then be used for selections by material. The you can select the asphalt, and apply proper brush strokes to the asphalt. Then you can select the sky, and do the same. You can select areas that share similar color values, and apply a wash with the same brush over these areas. Because they share the same values the brush stroke crossing color will not be as evident. Actually, it may be somewhat correct as to how it might work if you were creating this using a physical medium, instead of a digital medium. tcupp
Homeless - I totally agree. I feel somewhat embarrassed that I have submitted work with the same process and never considered how it would look if created with a real medium. Unfortunately, it was created with sketchup, so no Material ID Pass would be possible but it would be possible with a little more work. Thanks for the feedback. Blue - Thanks for the support...much needed after the boss pretty much ripped it apart. Anyway, it was created with 2 Sketchup exports into Photoshop. 1 of the model with all textures on/lines turned off/shadows on. The other of just the linework/shadows off. The linework is overlaid on the other image which has the Photoshop watercolor filter applied. Then the attached image is laid over that with a soft light blending mode. Which is where the problem that homeless referred to comes in.
