jucaro
Quoted from 3DSMAX 6 New Feature Guide: Most of the specific objects and features of Autodesk VIZ 4 have been included, and you will be able to do everything in 3ds max 6 that was possible in Autodesk VIZ 4. I dropped by the office of a colleague of mine who bragged about their newl MAX6, and so I gave it a spin. To my surprise, I couldnt find the DWG File Link Utility. Is it hidden somewhere deep within max6? I also noticed that when max6 boots up, it also loads the filelink.dlu file. So, where's the beef? File link is very important especially when constantly switching from ACAD & VIZ. It would very be inefficient to switch from ACAD to model and link it in VIZ and then render in MAX6. schmoron13
I don't remember exactly what they did, but I remember Jeff noting that they "revamped" the file link utility...something about "it" not being there, but having alternate routes...sorry for the rambling... jucaro
The standard DWG import has noticeably improved alot since MAX5, but I dont really see any 'revamped' DWG File Link Utility. :???:
Vince Paske
It's not in the initial release of Max 6. Discreet is working on revamping it and releasing it later. It's part of Discreet's policy of not releasing features until they are rock solid. From what I understand, it'll be worth the wait as they are expanding it's functionality greatly. jucaro
well, I read from the discreet MAX forum about revamping the feature as a patch. I just hope autodesk/discreet wont be hiding behind the guise behind the Policy "Discreet's policy of not releasing features until they are rock solid" Or putting the feature up for subscribers ONLY in the Autodesk Subcription Program? And I very hope too they're not going to force us to buy VIZ6 just so to be able to use DWG File linking. Much like what they did with the beta patch of Max5.1 Are they going to milk us again? xgarcia
The only booleans that I've found worth a damn are in AutoCAD. I recently worked on a job that I had to convert to editable poly, then boolean, convert to editable mesh, boolean some more. Kind of a pain because it took trial and error - Max6.
