hey all, I guess this could have gone in the vray thread but what the hell lol!

I did some mucking around at the weekend and produced these 2 images. Really trying to refine my techniques but fall sort of some of the realism Im looking for.

so comment away please. my thoughts are that my lighting is better than my modeling and materials.

lighting is pretty good i think!

you could do with imperfections in everything, make specific original diffuse /specular /bump etc maps. make sure yo use textures that dont tile, also pay attention to making sure textures are high res enough (ie. of you have a 3k wide image then the floor texture in the foreground needs to be 3k wide to have a 1:1 pixel ratio, or tile twice @ 1.5k to not appear blurry.

same goes for your modelling, chamfered edges, not perfectly flat surfaces, signs of dirt / wear on surfaces taht might get touched alot.

combined with your existing lighting i think it would make a big difference to realism. also reference architectural photography and have a look at the light balance (ie sun vs artificial lights / relative strength)

well mr odds.

I like these images very much, I would say get rid of those people out of the 2nd render and put some objects on the tables to give a bit of life to the image. The panels on the side look a bit strange, bit stuck on, no depth.

How long did these take your machine to chug out?

mr walker lol!

well the second one was created in about 6hrs so cut me some slack haha! render time for the first was 2.5hr 3000 by 2700, second was 1hr same size on my quad 2gig ram 32bit machine.

interview went well btw ;)
