MegaPixel
I'm wondering if there is a way to Render out a specific Object or a Selection of Objects to an Individual Element? For my application, I would want to render all of my House Trim and Decorative Objects of the same color so that I can easily change the color in Photoshop for my Client. The trick is, the objects need to receive shadows from other objects that will not be rendered. Thanks guys, Mega
Diego Rosales
There are many workarounds for this, but usually the easiest is to apply a matte/shadow material to all the shadow-casting/occluding objects (be sure opaque alpha is unchecked in the material editor). With this you get some sort of "render selected" output with the alpha channel of the visible portion of the objects you want to see. Something faster (if you just want a mask for post): Apply a 100% self-illum black material to the occluding geometry and 100% self-illum white for the rest (black background, if you see it). Create a channel in PS with this image and voila!! With the latter, you get rid of any extra calculation for fancy materials, etc... just the mask. Crazy Homeless Guy
i have no experience or knowledge of the software, but isn't this part of what combustion is designed for?
Daniel
Diego described the way you can do it with standard max tools but which always require additional sscnes and renderings. If you have Combustion you can render as RPF and make the changes there. If you have Photoshop you should have a look at the 3ds max plug-in psd-manager (150$). It allows you to work exactly the way you described it. It exports a PSD file with all the selections (channels) and layers you will need. It doesn't require to setup addiditional scenes. DelfoZ
Hide "specific objets " and render only the house without a "sepcific objets" and save the imagen .. . Un Hide all . Then Select all Exepet "specific objests" and Go Propierties ( right Botton over select items ) and click off "Render to camera", now When u render u only going to see the " specific objets " reciving shadows. .. .. i think.. saludos [ June 25, 2003, 12:20 AM: Message edited by: DelfoZ ]
