joemillson
Hi all, (3ds Max 2009, Mental Ray,Revit 2009) Ive tried everything to get rid of this glow at the wall/ceiling join. Originally this was Revit into Max and I thought light may have been getting in through the complex wall/floor join so I deleted all the revit walls/floors in max and remodelled them using max primitives but I still get this glow. Im using an MR Sun system with MR Sky and GI. Ive tried changing the materials and thiat makes no difference either. The white circles are light shafts (the ceiling is actually the underside of a concrete driveway). The driveway/ceiling above is around 450 mm thick. TheAllusionisst
Have you tried increasing the radius of the samples? I also wonder why outdoorlighting is being used in this scene, there must be openings letting light in outside of the view?
joemillson
Yes, reducing the radius does reduce it but it doesn't get rid of it totally. Im using a daylight system because i need it to replicate the internal shadows set by sunlight. The holes in the ceiling are light wells and in another part of the scene there are windows. TheAllusionisst
Well as not to battle tweaking settings all day, how about replacing the the sun and just use an area spotlight out side where the window/light wells are and fake the sun so that you don't have all that exterior light to contend with and you can control where the light is going? I just mention this because a simple fix like that may save a lot of trial and error. Otherwise you may look at the FG density, and perhaps join the wall to the ceiling or try a shell modifier.........
Peter M. Gruhn
Aside: It looks like you've got displacement ripping your stone wall apart there. http://www.hwb.com/gruhn/3d/displacement/displacement.html begins to talk about the issue and my attempts to work with it. Fran
Make sure your shadow bias setting is low enough. Just another thing to check.
