Hiroshi
I am wondering the best way to texture different areas of buildings. I make my buildings by making a spline in the shape of the roof of the building. I then extrude this for the height of the building. How would I texture the sides of the building differently from the roof?
Christopher Nichols
what you want to do is what games do and that is to do a UVWunwrap... which is a modifier for MAX. in Version 5.0+ pf max it has been improved. By unwrapping your object, it will place all the polygones on a zone in a map, you can then take that map into photoshop and cut and paste the texture into the right locations on the map... look at UVWunwrap in the MAX help and you will understand. quizzy
What I do in my current project is to let the extrude modifier create material ID's by shape ID's, you can alter the shape ID's in the spline-subobject segment. the top of your extruded spline has id:1 the rest you can change with editing the segments. I could give you more tips, but I don't know what you are making.. if you are creating a game or VR environment and need to export to .X format its a whole different story... well... a little different... just lemmy know..
