Michael J. Brown
I've set my Irradiance Map to 'high' and still get these splotches on my walls & ceiling. In fact, those surfaces had much less splotchiness when I was running tests at 'low' IM. Could it be my antialiasing settings? I used Mitchell-Netravali with min subdivisions set to 2, and max at 4. The wall material has zero reflection and ceiling just a touch with reflection glossiness of .8 and subdivisions set to 32. What gives? BTW, there are no lights in this scene. Only daylight from a VRaySky with a sun intensity multiplier of 10. Camera shutter speed is 50 with film speed of 250 - (for sake of render speed) Thanks. Nic H
those splotches are GI noise. Id try out using -6, -1 and 60 / 20 as far as your imap goes. illuminating the scene with sky only is going to need high GI generally.

Mike, I suggest searching for posts that I've made with the keyword 'splotches'. You'll find the answers you're looking for if you do.
