makai
Using backburner on the office network is touchy...I'm risking pissing off everyone as their box grinds to a halt. Can I controll it's resource consumption? I've installed >serversvc -i Of course it pegs the needle, 100% processor use. Folks pluging away at ACAD don't mind too much, but using Photoshop or 3D s'ware? Forget it. Has anyone found a happy coexestence?
quizzy
Well I never rendered when people were working on their PC's. I just changed the times of all employees comps and rendered at night and in the weekends... But there should be an option somewhere in windows that lets you control the priority of a program... But if people are not working behind their comps it still has that priority since it is a per comp setting you need to do... So you can't control that from your manager comp.. makai
Thank you. Exactly right. I was looking to control it through backburner, but they disown it completely by stating in the help: "The requirements and procedures presented here assume you are the administrator of a closed network set up exclusively for network rendering. In practice, you can use the network for file sharing and other purposes, but if conflicts arise, you might need to cancel those uses." Because of course rendering is the most important! The only fix I found is instructing people to set the 3dsmax.exe process priority to low via task manager. Seems to make it behave better. Other suggestions still welcome. BTW, this is my first post here. I've just discovered this site and I'm impressed with it and the moderators knowledge and professionalism. It helped me to be confident in recommending our firm invest in 3dsmax. What a great resource; Thanks!
