Carrotious Posted February 18, 2009 Share Posted February 18, 2009 I'm running a i7 940 with 12gig ram and looking at the performance in the windows task manager, i'm getting 25-40% cpu usage... Carrotious Posted February 19, 2009 Author Share Posted February 19, 2009 it's even stranger really... when rendering the scene with low setting at 640x480 all 8 cores are at a 100% for the light cache calc and the irradiance and the render. render te same scene with high setttings and at 1280x960 and the cpu usage percentages jump around from 12% to 60%. surely when redering all cores should be maxed out at 100%, especially at highr render settings?!? i'm most confused... Carrotious Posted February 19, 2009 Author Share Posted February 19, 2009 well i figured it out. it was the displacement in my carpet in an evermotion archshaders shader... unchecked and all cores are back to 100% checked and the problem reapears... I was also getting a UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: Irradiance map thread Last marker crash error. I'm going to have to look into displacement more thouroughly. Until now i didn't really use it as my pc was too slow, but now i should be ok to use it... anyway that was weird... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Dave Oliver Posted February 19, 2009 Share Posted February 19, 2009 from what i understand, displacement uses dynamic memory. if you go into the settings tab of your vray, and up the dynamic memory limit to 4 or 6 gigs (which should be fine considering you have 12) you should be able to rendering that displacement no problem.
