Sergio
Hi all, Yesterday I was busy playing with 3DS Max 6, and trying to setup a basic scene, room with few lights and I wasn't so happy. Than I started thinking, unfortinately, Lightscape is no longer with us, 3DS Max 5 suppose to inherit features of the extrimely accurate renderer, talking about light from the real life, like fluorescent, and those spots etc, even in 3DS Max 6 I did not see anything simular to Ligtscape. They claim that got preset lights, first ligts are not incorporated with light fittings which is important thing, ok we can always model them, but it is time consuming if you already got everything already designed, as it was in Lightscape. Maybee it is there but I did not see it. BTW 3DS Max 6 is amazing software, specially with new features... Please any comments, specially the Guru of Lightscape- Jeff P.S. Does anybody knows about basic tutorials for lighting in 3DS Max 6 with accurate lights, soon I have to start with some projects for guy who installs lights in houses and will need 3D of real to life lighting to show to his clients. (I did look in tutorials and help but ther is nothing about settings for accurate lights)What is scary, you can setup lights IES ones, and then go to Mental Ray and change photon settings and the rest, by doing that you upset the "accuretness" of light. Thanx! Regards Sergio!
jucaro
One good thing about 3dsmax 6 is the new architectural materials, which is very much lightscape-ish:) The lighting fixture (assemblies if you will) are just a minor setback because you can find them in most lighting manufacturers, like ERCO which has light fixture assemblies attached with its IES web files. What MAX6 doesnt have is the ability to define your own web parameters or define your own IES lights complete with web distributions. I just hope they [discreet] put back the File-link manager utility soon.
DEEPCONTACT
I must agree with jucaro Señor Sergio, ERCO light gives you a very extense library of luminaries files, you can download dem with your 3d max assets browser, or you can Use their drag and drop utility that permits you to get a hole sample of he light parameters and the lamps on 3D too. Still you can browse between the different kind of lights and get an idea with the thumbnails on the site of their products, whether it is a down ligt, spot light, pendant lights etc. and it work very good with radiosity. And the drop down menus are a real time saver to find the specific light accuracy and intensity. In that way you can get and example of it. Sergio
Hi Jucaro! Hi Deepcontact! Thanx for your inputs! can you please send me a link to site where I can found downloads for those lights. If I understood you correctly, I make a 3d scene, drop those lights, where they are supposed to be, run start atr Radiosity Processing, when is finnished, I just render, or it is bit more twisted? If I am wrong, please can somebody post me a link to the tutorial how can I deal with it, please! So I understand with those lights I can use radiosity, what about Mental Ray? Regards Sergio!
