schmoron13
I have a floorplan for a musis studio that I helped a friend design. I want to bring it into max 5.1, and it imports fine, but there's a major glitch: I can't extrude anything!!! If I try and convert anything to editable poly/mesh/path, the object dissapears. I can't loft either, so i'm at a loss. Did I model it wrong in acad, or is there a problem importing from r14? here's a pic of the floorplan. I'm at a loss. I tried looking in the reference manual, the tutorials and the 3ds max 5 bible and I don't have a clue what to do... I want to get this modeled soon (want to include it into my admission portfolio for arch. grad schools, but I'd prefer not to have to model the thing from scratch in max.... HELP!!!! schmoron13
i'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I exported the file as a .dxf (version 14), but when I import it, I'm still losing certain lines. I tried redrawing these lines are rectangles, but it didn't work. Does it have something to do with the fact that I'm using r14 in Acad? I'm at a total loss!!! here's a quick screenshot of what pop's up:
Victor Erthal
I think it might sound quite a stupid question but... Why don't you import the dwg instead of dxf??
STRAT
make sure all the elements are separately layered or coloured in acad (ie, doors, walls, door frames etc..) then dxf out into max. then in max, goto EDIT SPLINE. under edit spline, select all of an object's verts then weld them together to create your closed shape (if you want the loft capped). this shape will then LOFT. pointless using edit mesh straight away from importing as there's no mesh to edit and your splines will just dissappear
schmoron13
just retried it, and wouldn't you know, it worked!!!!...now for the actual modeling...
