max.m
hi, generally i work in vray and do my masks for post with mmre. i just found out that mmre do not work with opacity maps. so i am looking for a workaround to achieve masks for opjects like the fence in the image. i try it now with scanline + render elemets - but again i get only a mask of the object of the fence without consideration of the transparent parts. help please
Bwana Kahawa
I'd create a second fence texture map of pure white fence on pure black background, same size and proportions as the rendered one. Render it in your scene with constant illumination (so shadows and lighting don't affect it) and a black background and you end up with your opacity map for your fence. Overlay it over your original opacity map for the rest of the scene in Photoshop using screen mode and the two will be combined together.
gordo3di
I think this lack of functionality renders the Render Elements almost useless. I have the same critique with Material override and opacity maps. My best option was to follow Bwana's advice and make your own maps. For example to make your own RE material id pass I just made several maps with different colors, turned on self illumination, turned off FG GI and shadows and let it render. Sure its a headache but if you save it as a different file (ive had many problems with scene states so I gave up on them) then it saves some time.
