RevitGary
OK AJ... I noticed I can get a i7 4 ghz for about the same price as dual 2.26 ghz. I am assuming that is the way to go. I am looking for bench marks but cant find what I am looking for. I am assuming the rendering times in mental ray will be almost the same. And the speed for all other apps will be considerably faster. you have any idea about rendering times with these two options? Thanks for all you advice. AJLynn
Yeah, it should work out about like that. The dual would probably be a bit faster than the OC'ed box in rendering but probably not much. But I haven't seen enough workup on both the options... are these both Boxx products? Boxx should have pretty comprehensive test results on both, so talk with somebody there and ask these questions. RevitGary
yess they are both boxx It was the end of the day when I came up with this question. The tech guy wasnt there. I will be speaking with them tomorrow. Thanks!!
BOXXLABS
I've been traveling for a while and not checking the forums... NOt sure if you got in touch with the sales engineers but I can chime in here and provide some direction... Revit is basically a single-threaded application. Revit really likes very fast clock speeds on a single core. So, for most processes in Revit, the 3DBOXX 4850 Extreme (singke i7 at 4Ghz) will kill about any other system on the planet. Period. This includes any and all dual Nehalem Xeons available. This includes any time-consuming operations such as surface re-ordering/rebuilding on large projects/assemblies. For final rendering in mental ray (and other modern raytyracing engines), the 4850 Extreme @ 4Ghz is almost the same speed (slightly faster actually) as a system using a pair of Xeon 5520s cpu's. If you do a ton of renders, you may want to look at a dual Xeon setup. If you spend more time rendering than modeling, you should probably look at a seat of 3DSMAX and some dedicated renderfarm hardware. **I forgot to mention, but if your Revit projects are really large, you definielty should consider moving to Revit 64 bit on a 64-bit system with at least 8 or 12 GB or RAM. Cheers, Adam BOXXlabs

Tommy L
So did you buy 2? I seem to remember this thread stated as a 'mobile workstation to take to and from work' thread....? Oh, and the magic question, how much did the system cost?
