Adding Materials

Hi everyone, apologies if this sounds like a simple question I am just starting to learn 3d and I am using 3ds max 2009 which I am now to a good level of modelling ability. When it comes to applying materials, if I am using Vray as a plug in, do I use vray to add the materials or do I apply them in 3ds max?

You use max to apply materials. If you are using VRay, make sure you use VRay materials.
