sir eel
Hello all, I was perusing the tutorials on cg architect and found myself wondering how you guys get lighting results like these: http://www.cgarchitect.com/resources/tutorials/smoke3d/tut14_15.jpg http://www.cgarchitect.com/resources/tutorials/smoke3d/tut13_14.jpg I set up a small room with some windows. Just standard grey materials on everything and standard materials with transparency set really high for the windows. I put a sky light in the picture and a spot light with shaadow map shadows. I turn light tracer on and I get nothing just about a bacl pic. But can’t seem to get light through let alone to have it look like sunlight is pouring through the window. Any help would be much appreciated. Better yet if someone have a sample max file that I can download and study I would probly take up less of your time and learn alot faster. Thanks all. Jason Matthews
Can you post your scene? You need to decide what kind of lighting ou want to do, radiosity or fakeiosity. This tutorial is good for ext. radiosity lighting. http://www.cgarchitect.com/upclose/article8_TB.asp Check out cgtalk.com, 3dtotal.com, help3d.com, 3dcafe.com, etc.
vru
The tutorial uses fakeosity. So use the standard lights as explained in the tutorial Lighting and shadow basics - part 3.
Jason Matthews
After thinking about it for a while, dont use skylight for an interior scene. I believe skylight is only for ext. scenes. Try using daylight located under systems in the create panel. Here you can adjust the sun and skylight while using light tracer. Follow the tutorial here to get a sense of light tracer, but dont use skylight. If you must use the skylight, it will take some tweeking. You must use other lights in the interior as well. I will try to find fakeosity tutorials for you but still look through the sites I recommended. I thought Ted Boardman had some tutorials up late last year. They were great. http://www.mrussoart.hpg.ig.com.br/more/tutorial/av/introav.htm [ February 21, 2004, 08:28 PM: Message edited by: Saturn ]
