Heirarchy, "pivot button" help!

Hi again

please bear with me....I was trying to re-set the xyz position, by going to the heirarchy button, then clicking the "affect pivot only"...when i clicked that, the xyz then aligned correctly to my object, but when i click the arrow to exit out of that heirarchy menu, the xyz position goes back to the original set position...does anyone know how to make the ajustment "stick" ????? I attached an image of what im trying to do...thanks for your help.....

You're probably in a local coordinate system or something of that nature and the pivot gets displayed when you are clicking the "Affect pivot only" button. When you press that you are just turning on the pivot editing. Nothing should happen to the pivot unless you manually move/rotate/scale it. To reset the pivot's position/rotation/scale use the Reset xform utility (utilities panel, Reset xform button).
