Jonathan
Is it possible to thicken autocad faces into a defined solid group of objects. I have an irregular shape made up of 3d faces yet I need to give it some solidity (wall thickness) Does anyone have any suggestions on how to work this? I have tried extruding faces yet this just causes gaps in the geometry. Thanks in advance.
neil poppleton
try extruding closed polylines.

Stan Zaslavsky
you can also add solid objects together once they are all solid (once you have extruded polylines into solids)
alexg
haven't really tried this, but maybe you can use 3dpoly (3dpolylines)? then you can extrude all the closed 3dpolylines
3D_IC
Extruding a 3dpoly line can create iregular results unless extruding along a path. depending on how eregular your wall is. I would try and break it down into sections model it as solids (extruded closed poly lines) then union them all together as one object. If the wall is too complex leave it as individual bits, not one large complex object. This will help Autocad and prevent crashing.
Claudio Branch
Import it into Max and use the Shell modifier.
Peter M. Gruhn
I believe so. It's in "that book I really like...." which I've put "somewhere, I'm sure of it." Got it. Two step process. CONVTOSURFACE, THICKEN.
