Gander0
Hi all Im sure this is a quicky, but had to post as its driving me mad. Basically i apply a material to an object, i'll use the example of an noise opacity map, mapped onto a sphere. I then click on the show map in viewport button in the material editor to show the grayscale map in the viewport. I ajust it accordingly....Fine! Then I render out a test and the position of my gray scale map in the viewport which ive lined up perfectly is nothing like that of my rendered image, I think its a completely different scale. Im sure this is a simple setting problem. Can anybody help? Cheers! Gander
Jonny English
Have you tried using a UVW map modifier on the object? - it works for me. Jonny English.
Gander0
Hi Jonny.....Yeah always use UVW. Dunno what the problem is. Maps work fine if I made them myself eg making a wall rendering out the shape, painting windows in photoshop as grayscale and then using in Max as an opacity map. Everything fits in place. Problem is max's own materials such as noise.
Craig Ramsay
Tried messing about with the noise tiling values? Craig
Gander0
Hi Craig Yeah played with those, with enough tweaking i can eventually get the look i want by rendering a still every time i tweak. What i want however is to be able to view my map as it will be rendered in the viewport eg with an noise opacity map I want to know that the area that is white in the viewport will be transparent in the render. Craig Ramsay
Oh ok I see what you mean. I always just do test renders with procedural maps like noise, I don't think viewport resolution is good enough to view the final result. Gander0
Cheers Craig At least i know it isn't just me. Hopefully we'll get some info on how to resolve this problem as it is a pain to keep rendering images and I would have thought the viewport could handle a simple grayscale image Gander
