MAX CHAT on LIVE CHAT Feature

I've been trying to use the "Live Chat" feature for several weeks now, trying to find users of these forums willing to talk about MAX, but to no avail. Do CGArchitect visitors still not know about this wonderful tool of instant feedback we have available to us? I was hoping to generate some sparks by bringing this up. I would really love to coordinate with some other MAX users here and have some live discussions about current trends and techniques, maybe even host a live tutorial which could be completed within 15 or 20 minutes kind of thing. Just thinking out loud here. Hope to see more folks online - MegaP

LOL, I have been trying to generate enough interest for the Live Chat feature for months time now...

BUT, everytime, it just seem ppl either wasn't interested, don't know how to use it (?) or they simply don't know this wonderful feature existed.

The few CGarchitect users that comes on live chat, have this tendency to just login, say "Hi" or "anybody alive?" then leave. (with in 30 seconds)

There are always about 10 users of various experties (architecture, construction, PHP/back-end, software design, various rendering package and 3DS MAX as well!) in the CGarchitect Live channel, but we are not always quick to respond (because of work, or just currently busy, or perhaps taking a nap), SO, I like to ask anyone interested in livechat to STAY A LITTLE LONGER, we WILL respond to you :)

Please don't just leave, stay atleast 5 minutes.

Better yet, if we really want to make this wonderful feature grow, I like to ask the enthusiast to idle in Livechat for as long as they can :) so, there will be more experts in channel, and more ppl to respond to the question, answers, or the newest trend in CG or hardware. We sometimes even have CPU designers coming in mistaken the channel for CPU architecture (LOL) I am sure you will find diverse experties in this channel.

If just 10% of CGarchitect's user base (it's about 2000 members now?) join the livechat, it would really make this channel grow, imagine 200 ppl critiquing your work, (LOL, I wouldn't) or give you tips and guides to better your rendering, or simply looking for jobs or job offers.

I see the Livechat feature as a compliment to the Cgarchitect forum, not as a distractor as well. Since Livechat is instaneous, sometimes topic will be lost for ppl who didn't join the chat, or don't know the announcement, so I think important topic and announcement in livechat can be pinned in the CGarchitect forum(s) that ppl can check back and get the information they want.

All in all, it is a wonderful feature, and I hope to see you all there :)

Good Response, That's what I wanted to hear. I have a second Issue however. The whole IRC interface that launches when I click on LIVE CHAT is really really basic and I don't know how to join other channels or make buddy lists or anything like that. I'm not saying I want it to be like an Instant Messenger, but the interface does kind of scare me. Any comments?

  • 10 months later...

I'm also on the chat channel a fair bit as well. As Richard has said, it can be a great source of instant feedback from colleagues. There have been many a late night when I would recieve feedback while Richard ate his breakfast ;)

If you stick around the channel and frequent it, you will see that there are currently a small collective of regulars. I also hope we can allow this to grow.

Live chat started slow when Jeff originally started it (was it two years ago?) and died shortly after. there were a few of us over there for a while, but it wasn't really such a great help as we all thought it would be. With the new forum with all instant messenging kinda stuff, I doubt its still needed.
