Sargimo
This is a little more than my budget can bear, but I'll do it if it's not stupid. I'm just learning 3ds max. I mostly do interiors. Remodels and Millwork and furniture. Any opinions? I need to do this very soon, Is Dell OK? P.S. Thanks A.J. I remain online till
AJLynn
If you're over budget, you can drop the second video card and go to the i7-920 with minimal loss of performance, otherwise it's a good system but if you think you can handle building your own PC I have a friend who just built a very similar one using parts from Newegg for a lot less money. It went something like: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811112100 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139005 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131359 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115202 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227365 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150323 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136284 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118023 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823126022 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826153003 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116378 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826999055 That's $1250 before shipping, after mail-in rebates. Sargimo
Didn't even know I picked dual video cards, I was just looking at the memory. Wow, $ a thousand less for a self-build, I have always wanted to build my own. Hmmmm, I could fit in a second monitor.... gotta be honest, I don't know anything about hardware. But I'm not afraid of much. Gonna need your Phone # though

Slinger
Why Dell specs out 1066mhz DDr3 is beyond me. I would go with Andrews recommendation of buying it yourself. Only thing I would possibly change is getting a Gigabyte mobo vs the Asus....just b/c I am a gigabyte guy And GSkill ram
Sargimo
Well I'm locked in now, " IN PRODUCTION" E.T.A. 30 days??!!! Goin' crazy. I really should have taken a crack at building it myself:( Next one for sure! Question,... would 1 gig on the gfx card instead of 512 significantly improve performance? Slinger
What size monitor and at what resolution do you plan to use? BTW, 30 day in production? Call to cancel it then. Edited April 3, 2009 by Slinger
AJLynn
What he said. 30 days is unreasonable - given 30 days you could learn everything you ever wanted to about PC building and do it yourself. The video card thing - no, 1gb won't be much or any improvement in Autocad and Max. If you plan to do any high end gaming on it, 1gb would be helpful. Sargimo
Finally got it. Everything set up and loaded up fine, just needed to update a few drivers. Very happy, almost forgot how long I waited. Thanks for all the help. Now I must dive into the Max learning curve. (or should I say, start climbing the Max learning curve?). God help me. Again, thanks. It's great to find this resource and the generous people who participate.
