dpcaltdcah
I'm trying to turn an xfrog tree into a mental ray proxy. We have max design 2009 and I have my tree as a single mesh object. I've tried both the way suggested in the help files AND the way suggested on mentalraytips.com with his plugin. both work just fine on other objects but not on my tree. It just renders blank even though the little proxy preview window shows a preview of the tree. The "point cloud" preview doesn't show the shape of the tree either... thoughts? suggestions? I'm normally a vray user, is there something obvious I'm just not doing?
Crazy Homeless Guy
I am guessing the the path in you proxy rollout leads to a directory where the .bmp is located, but not where the .mip is located.
dpcaltdcah
nope, it leads to the .mip file...
Crazy Homeless Guy
Local or on the network? ....try using UNC pathing instead of drive letter. Also, how large is the mip file size? maybe there was an error when creating it, and there is actually no information in the file.
dpcaltdcah
the files are on the network. UNC paths didn't help. the .mip files are 6 Mb consistently. It works just perfectly with a cube or whatever other shape I try.
Crazy Homeless Guy
Hmmm.... 6mb seems kind of small, but I don't know how detailed your trees are. I don't use Xfrog, but when I make Onyx proxies, the file size ranges from 30 to 122 megs. Have you tried a new scene, and placed a fresh proxy in that scene, with no material mapping? dpcaltdcah
a max scene just containing this particular tree is a little under 7 Mb. It depends on which tree and the age and size. I tried a new scene, no materials, still nothing for the tree. totally fine for anything non-tree...
TheAllusionisst
All the trees and bushes in this scene are MR Proxies from Xfrog models. You should be using Master Zap's plugin that creates a proxie out of multi-objects and you will need to re-apply the material to the proxies. In addtion the point cloud display is all that I believe is available and this makes it hard to locate stuff accturately. Hope this helps and sorry if I am repeating what you have already done, but it can be done http://www.3dallusions.com/forums/attachments/mr-max-wips/9172d1236469027-thorncrown-chapel-extclrtest50sml.jpg Edited March 27, 2009 by Russell L. dpcaltdcah
omg, I do not believe this! I spent like three hours yesterday trying to figure this out, then this morning had the brilliant idea of reinstalling the plugin and of course now it works just fine. thanks for your help guys!
