I had some time to kill in Harvard Square and CVS had a sale on CVS brand film (if it's labeled Made In Japan and C41/CN-16 it's actually Fujicolor, and I lucked out and got some that expires in April 2011) so I took a roll of CVS 200, a roll of Fuji 400, my F75 and my 18-55 AF-S DX VR (the D60 kit lens) with me.

Now I know that you're not supposed to shoot film on a DX lens because you lose the corners. But if you treat that as a feature instead of a bug and shoot at 18mm wide open, you've got a free ultrawide f/3.5 AF-S VR lens with no CA and almost no flare!

Results are posted here. I'm pretty happy with them - I think I'm going to shoot this way more often. The consumer grade Fujifilm is forgiving and has excellent color

The Download buttons link to 2MP versions. The first set (by the numbering) is the 400, the second is the 200, and they're in reverse order because the F75 unspools the film then winds it back in as you shoot.

This is very cool! Love the effect and the feel of it...

Only one question... what's film? Photoshop filter? jk ;) This makes me want to break out the EOS again and dust it off!

I was actually wondering the other day how many people still shoot on film now-a-days for vis related work...

Thanks guys! I'm definitely going to go out and shoot some more, maybe take a detour and hit downtown Boston on my way to dinner. I went to Target and the very friendly photo counter woman told me that if I didn't request same-day service she could do processing only for $0.95 per roll and another $2.50 for a CD. That's crazy - at $0.95 it's almost enough to persuade me to get a film scanner.

If I were to back off a bit from 18mm and stop down a few notches I'd still be getting very wide angle but a lot less vignette so I figure I could get some Ektar or Provia and be doing real architectural work that way without even having a proper lens.
