Hi,

Is it possible to create a 3d section (architectural visualisation) in 3ds max. I have read that all objects must be attached yet I dont think this is appropriate particularaly for a large project. If Microstation can do it surely it is possible in Max?

Thanks

Johnny

This is one of my biggest problems with max.

As most of you will know , the architects never ask for a straight section most of the time stepped, or some other dodgy angle.

So slicing a model and then after you butchered you model a s saved version obiously they want to move the section.

Revit, sketchup all have great section tools.

Any chance this can be intigrated , it would stop me moving to revit.

You could probably make a simple macro script

open listener

clear the window

hit HOLD

attach them all together into a single object

then bring the slice tool out and center it on your model.

When you move it where you want, slice it

When you're through, just do a FETCH

Yes, but with other apps, it's possible to export the spline created by the section. Very helpful for presentation in AutoCAD or ArchiCAD.

I've recently discovered another section tool in Max. It creates a spline. It can be useful in some cases. ==> Create/Shape/Section.

if you have a bit of time and spare $$ the head over to cebas plugins and have a look at their scapelmax toolset

basically it a interactive boolean type tool

very stable and you'll get the stepped sections with multiple instances of scalpel applied to mesh

used lots in the past with no issues
