Mr Max
Hey everyone, I've been modeling a restaurant project completely on 3d max for the last 3 days and I just to a seriuos problem! When I started rendering I realized that my exterior glass walls are not refracting right! i.e. I can't see the environment outside!! First I thought it was a bug in my file but after drawing a simple box and trying to make it transparent (refract 100%), it would render completely black and never refract at all! I tired so many materials and so many different files but all the sudden my pc is acting weired! everything else renders right except for glass & mirror! I don't know if it's a bug in my max folder or if my pc needs format! either ways I can't redo my 3d scene again and I don't know if it's wise to move it to another pc in the firm! I'm afraid that would infect other computers as well! this problem is occuring in all files in this pc all the sudden! it's a quad core, 2.4 GHZ, 4 GB RAM PLease tell me what can I do in this case & whether it's safe to move this file to a different pc and finish it there! Thanks a lot guys
A.Mitov
What render engine do you use?
Mr Max
I use max 9_64 bit with vray 1.50 SP1 the only problem I'm having in rendering is with the refraction/reflection materials where the object appears black & distorted while in the viewport itself, the glass look completely transparent and just fine! In addition, max crashes when I switch it to smooth& highlight although it's polygon count is still under 1 milion and the file size is only 10 mb and I used lines(enabled in renderer & viewport) in most of my scene to avoid excessive use of boxes & polygons! this problem happens even when I start a new scene with a simple sphere& box! I hope someone can help me out with this situation:confused:
Mr Max
one thing I forgot to mention is that my old files are still rendering right and my glass materials look just fine! does it make any sense?!
dean@pikcells
have you tried remaking the geometry of the glass?
Mr Max
I found the solution and you won't believe how silly it is! I was using a saved preset in rendering and in this preset I had the reflection& refraction colors set to black in the environment rollout while they should be set to white! so the problem is solved! thanks anyways
amer abidi
3 things i reckon you could try: 1- save the render/environment settings from your old files and load them as presets into your new one. 2- merge the old glass object and material from your file to see if that works. and if that fails.. 3- try changing the refraction exit colour of your glass material to (say) red to see if it changes from black in render. Then you'd know its a material issue. But i reckon its an environment/render setting issue.. not a max issue. good luck EDIT: lol..posted at same time
