Michael J. Brown
This has to be the best grass I have ever produced without the use of the hair/fur modifier. I've never really achieved acceptable results using material-based displacement. Decided to try the VRayDisplacementModifier, and Bingo! I'm especially happy that (as opposed to using a material-based displacement or the hair/fur modifier) my system doesn't crash if I try to execute this on an area larger than about 10'x10'. Your feedback is welcome.
zulks
I saw a tutorial once that made use of the VRayDisplacementModifier, I think it works quite well. However, it will crash max if you get too big with it.
Ray
Looks good! It takes the right grass maps to really make vray displacement shine. I saw a tutorial once that made use of the VRayDisplacementModifier, I think it works quite well. However, it will crash max if you get too big with it. I just rendered a football field worth of displaced grass with no crashes. Granted there isn't a lot of geometry in the scene, but I'm happy with it. Michael J. Brown
Wow. Great looking grass (and yard lines), Ray! If only my Detroit Lions played as good as this field looks, we'd be in business

Trust me Brian, there's no longer any such thing as a low blow when you're talking Lions football - or the lack thereof.
Ray
field looks great, where did you get the map from for a football field??? This is the base grass map. I'm pretty sure I didn't purchase it, so there should be no problem sharing the map.

Ray
Way to hi-jack a brotha's thread, Ray! With your fancy-pant's football grass. Hey, I thought this was a thread about the Lions! Sorry for the threadjack, I just wanted to point out that large patches of vray displacement grass can be rendered successfully.

That can't be the map you used for the displacement though right? I have learned getting the right displacement (including the map) is over half the battle. What map did you use for that?
