nelpiper
Hi guys. I'm using a skylight to illuminate my scene with a HDRI but I don't want this HDRI to show. Rather i'm using a hemisphere with another HDRI mapped to it. The problem is that the dome is blocking the skylight illumination. Sice the skylight has no exclude option so that I can exclude the dome, how can I achieve this? Any ideas? Thanks.
Stephen Thomas
You could go into the object properties for the dome and uncheck the cast shadows option. Is the point of using an HDRI background not supposed to be that your lighting matches the background image though?
nelpiper
You're right but what I mean is that when the dome is on the scene and a take a render, the rendering comes out black. When I hide the dome, the HDRI illuminates the scene fine. So, I want to have the skylight illuminating the scene but not affecting the dome. At the sme time, I want the dome to appear as a background in my scene. Thanks.
luckymutt
If the HDRI on the dome is just for the sake of the background, and the HDRI in the skylight is for illumination, then why bother using the dome? Instead, just use the HDRI currently on the dome and set it in the Environment slot and set to spherical.
Justin Hunt
you can tell the DOME not to interact with FG and photons in the objects properties set FG to Pass through and Photons not to generate. Also turn Cast shadows off . jhv
nelpiper
That's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks Justin.
