Dave Buckley
Guys Having a little difficulty, still quit enew to particles, but the result i want to achieve is similiar to an effect that is used all over the place. Dispersion. An object disintegrating into dust. However i can get this far and it looks good, but i don't want to the particles to die, instead i want the object to turn into dust, have the dust float around and swirl about for a bit, and then have the dust morph back into a different object. I know it can be done if for example i disperse a teapot and then morph back to a teapot, i can just copy and reverse keyframes right. But lets say i want to disperse a car and then have it morph back into a motorbike???
luckymutt
Something similar to this? http://www.luckymutt.net/posts/runningMen.mov In this case, the men are copies but you can do it as two different objects just as easy. After the particles are dispersed you can have them get swept around by wind, a vortex, or whatever, then have them find a target in mid-air. After that target, have them find a new target which is an animated map on the object they are going to create and they can die at that point. pentexplorer
thats awesome...would like to know a work around on this too..I remember doing a pFlow tutorial on a teapot particle dispersion some time back.
luckymutt
Here is a quick and simple setup, going from a torus knot to a teapot: http://www.luckymutt.net/posts/dispersion_create.zip I didn't get crazy with forces and drags and such, but they can be dropped in anywhere you want it. And rather than dispersing from and filling volume its all just by surface, but I'm sure you can figure it out. Hope this helps

Dave Buckley
another slight problem with this??? i want the teapot and torus to be chrome and therefore i want the particles to be chrome too??? where the hell do i drop my chrome material in??? i have done it where i think it needed to but now my particles have disappeared
luckymutt
Where are you putting the material now? In the particles first event, add a "Material Static" operator. Drag your chrome material from the material editor as an instance into the operator's material slot. I don't believe there is a way to have each event inherit the material from previous events, so you'll need to instance this operator into each of the other events as well.
