danb4026
I've searched the forums for FTP. file sharing, etc, but the posts are very old, so I thought I would bring it up again for some fresh insight. What are the best choices to allow clients to access files (either images, quicktime, or Flash) that we have created for them? FTP seems to be confusing to many, YouSend is great for sending large files for download, but forces the client to download in order to view. Right now I want my client to be able to click on a link and go immediately to a browser window to view my SWF file, without having to download etc. I have a web hosing service, with FTP, that hosts my website, but don't know if I want to mess with my website to create a space for clients with limited access. There is also a monthly fee to allow Guest ftp access with passwords. I also have an individual account with Box.net, which seems to be a good way to share and collaborate. But in order to allow clients to view specific folders with password access, there is a monthly fee of $19.95. Any advice?
andyH
Do a google search for FileZilla. Its a free ftp server. You can set up folders and give access via username and password. All you need then is a public IP address and a firewall that will allow port forwarding and you could then present the content to your customers. The customer would point their browser to your firewall and then log in and have access to the content you want them to see.
Tommy L
http://www.cozimo.com Fantastic site. Free, but you'll need pro subscription to do video and images over 10mb (I think) All the tools are brilliant, its quick, easy and your clients will think you are awesome. Andy, what exactly is a "public IP address"? I know my IP addresses for my computers on my network, are those what you are referring to? And how do I set it up to get them access? http://www.cozimo.com Fantastic site Tommy, do the people you want to collaborate with have to have Cozimo aswell? From the quick look I took, it look similar to Box.net. I am going to check it out further now...Thanks

I am going to check it out further now...Thanks When you have files you want to share with someone who doesnt have a cozimo account, you set one up for them when you send the invite. So they will receive an email contsining a link and a password to their account. Effectively, they just click the link and they are into the folder containing the images. The tools I mentioned are realtime, so as you annotate, draw or put arrows on the images, it appears on the image in front of everyone viewing. Really, I cant beleive how good it is for a free tool. Someone said the other day that way virtual things are sold has changed. Instead of giving away 1 brownie to sell 50, people give away 50 virtual brownies in order to sell one. manta
Well if I'm understanding you correctly...just create a new folder in your web space i.e. (the folder where your website is contained)...upload the pictures, videos to the new folder...send them a link to the files i.e. http://www.yoursite.com/newfolder/video.mov...it will open up in their browser...no need to do anything to your website...just delete the folder when your done with it... Tommy L
Just use cozimo. I wouldnt be srprised in an online interactive realtime meeting about an image ends up becoming called 'A cozimo'. Rather like an internet search has become a google. "mm-yeah, we just cozimo'd the shit out of it. Now Ive got a truck-load of work to do"

manta
It's a flash site, so I have no idea how to do that. Just FTP.yoursite.com...it will ask for the user name and password...and it will open up the folder where ur website resides...
