please help! flatten/align a curved object?

Hi

 

Im trying to flatten an object that has a slight curve to it, so that i can cut a section of the entire object....I attached a pic of what im trying to do...I know you can just add the bend modifier, but is there a way to do something like a "normal align" to just flatten and align it to another plane (likethe green box in my attached pic)????? Please let me know if you have any suggestions...I'm tryin to laser cut out these "truss" peices so I need them to be flat to get a vector section from them...thanks

Try the 'Conform' space warp. It might do what you need.
