Hi, when i render my image inside max using vray, the lighting and everything looks how i want it. But when i look at my picture in the folder its in, the image looks really dark and saturated? Does anyone know why this may be happening? Attached images to show what i mean.

one word - GAMMA, big subject, but basically you need to save the image with an output gamma value of 2.2, there are numerous ways to do this either in the default max gamma settings (Customize>Preferences) or you can do it in Vray render settings, but at the minute i'm guessing that you have default gamma set to 1 both in max and in vray, and i reckon that in the vray frame buffer you have the sRGB button turned on at the bottom. With this turned on, the result that the frame buffer shows, is what your image will look like with a gamma of 2.2 applied. turn the button off and it will then show you the dark image you are seeing in your saved image. That sRGB button is almost like a gamma preview button.

Gamma is a huge subject and quite a lot of things can be affected by it, textures etc. I'd do some indepth research into gamma and also Linear Workflow's (LWF). It will help you greatly. If your not bothered about linear workflows then just turn the sRGB button off in the frame buffer and then what you see is what you will get when you save it.

hope this helps, and good luck with understanding the wonderful world of LWF if you decide to take that route, there are lots of threads, just type LWF into any cg related forum :)
