markf Posted April 11, 2009 Share Posted April 11, 2009 I'm using a target direct light as the main light in an exterior scene. Also using Vray environment light. The scene is a simple building with a bunch of Vray proxy Onyx trees and bushes casting shadows on a snow covered ground. The shadows on the building look good but don't seem dark enough on the ground. I'm using Vray shadows with the direct light. I was trying to introduce some blue color to the shadow. The lights' shadow color selector in the modifier panel seems to have no effect. I can set it to red or green or whatever and no change. Is there a way to adjust the shadow color of a target direct light using Vray shadows? The shadow color is set to all black but I'd like to make it darker. Can't seem to find how to do that either. I feel I'm missing something obvious but can't figure out what. Any help much appreciated. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

markf Posted April 11, 2009 Author Share Posted April 11, 2009 Thanks Joseph. I tried unchecking transparent shadows. That allows the shadow color to be changed. The density parameter doesn't seem to have any effect above 1.0. Lesss than 1.0 and the shadows get lighter. I'm trying to make them darker, but still can't get that to work. markf Posted April 12, 2009 Author Share Posted April 12, 2009 Thank you both for your replies. Turning down the environment sounds logical. Should have known to try that. I'll try it and see how it affects the rest of the scene. I'm thinking I may need to increase the color mapping multiplier to compensate. Right now the scene as a whole is lit ok. Just the shadows on the snow could be darker and some blue tint. I'm using light cache for secondary bounce and don't have an environment built around the entire scene. It's being composited with a site photgraph. So I'm not sure decreasing the secondary bounce will help. Thanks again. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
