Has anyone had trouble with Boxx?

Ok...there are a few things to clarify here since I have gone through 2 burnt out cores during this summer (of course its the only machine and there were multilple projects going on)

 

Boxx Support and speed to replace is stellar!

What follows is not towards boxx itself...but more so the logic behind fan\heatsink\liquid cooling.

 

Why would you want liquid cooling:

To have a no noise cooling system that stays that way. I want to add...a liquid cooling system that does not have a pump system or semiconductive cooler on the resevoir...is useless...If you dont have a semiconductor cooling unit on the resevoir...its like buying a fridge without the coolant system...and you are there using a hand fan outside a big metal box..to keep the food fresh...yeah...hope you have a lead stomach.

 

You might ponder?

The temperature needed to cool is dependent on:

- the processing strain (chip heating) ((variable))

- in box ambient temperature (all the devices pitching into making it hot)

- as well as out of box ambient temerature (its hot out?...well blowing hot air into a hot system...doesnt work now does it)

 

Fan-combo anything is fundamentally stupid since it is at the mercy of cabinet & out of cabinet temperatures. The cooling system has to COOL the components by feeding a constant inductive temperature to the semiconductors. This is the only way to reduce chip burnout in ANY environment.

 

As for heatsinks, their alloys, fin amount, spacing, length....yes...yes they work but not truely very well. Not in the dynamic power use that computers create. Its a passive system that will be glossed with all kinds of ridiculous terms to make it "greener", less power...but it does not directly cool the chip...which is what most people who are putting down some big bucks when they want\need in a production system. Not to mention the footprint they make compared to liquid cooled systems. They are good and useful when the heat that they are supposed to dissapate is constant...therefor being able to create a system that constant & managable to employ a proper cooling method for it.

 

Fans....a cheap, old fashioned method for doing a moderate job while providng for itself an immentent death and therefore replacement. As they get older, they get whiney (could make a joke here..) When they are new...they still make noise...and usually you need more than one...so there's a chorus. Like the floppy drive...they should be abandoned and modern methods\technology should implement...you know...something that REALLY works.

 

Unfortunately...you cant get away from the fan built into the power supply. (please invent a liq cooling system that actually integrates the power supply)...like making a hole in the side to slot in a cooling puck...

 

Lower power systems are great for reducing the electric bill and reducing heat...but it does NOT replace whats truely needed...constant and silent cooling to the system to minimize replacement and downtime...something that im sure ANY company would welcome...since it also means lesscost\shipping\client greif....threfore...increased profits, happy people....projects getting done on time...

 

Liquid cooling baby! Liquid cooling!:D
