robert taylor
Hi All, I have downloaded the free xfrog trees from autodesk seek today,And great quality they are too . My particular issue with these tree's however are the fact that for me they seem to import as one un-groupable object ,So i have to use the modify/vertex option to seperate the bark from the leaf,Basicly when i add my leaf map the whole tree becomes leafy including the trunk/branches and vice versa with the bark map as the tree is one un-seperable object. When i import the tree into max i use file>merge,Not sure if that has anything to do with it or not,but it's my only option as import will not work,I am using the .3DS format for import. Please can someone put me on the right track, i would be most gratefull (then maybe i can get some sleep tonight ) Many thank's in advance!!!. Derek Forreal
what version of Max are you using? the attached text file says that the .max files will work from Max 9 onwards - why are you using .3ds? File > Merge will work fine with .max files. i downloaded the first model to test and opened in max 2008 and it comes in great. the mapping is already done so use the supplied material and change the bitmap in the diffuse panel if you wish to do so. does that help? robert taylor
Hi,Yep tried again the problem is still there, i merge tree into max (.max) that goes fine, then comes the applying texture part,i go to diffuse and add the bark picture, the whole tree including the leaf's turn to bark,o.k so i use another sphere and add my leaf picture in diffuse maps section and copy that to opacity map channel then set to alpha and apply texture,Now my tree looks blotchy with green leaf material on the trunk and branches:(.Does anyone know how to seperate the leaf's from the trunk and branches as when i merge the tree into max it comes in as one object??? so i cannot seem to seperate it into different parts to apply the perspective textures:confused: i am using max 8. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Derek Forreal
i am using max 8 that's probably it then - it does say that they're Max 9 onwards compatible. i think it'll be very time consuming to separate all of those models manually. if it's just a couple of models you need to separate, you could try to select the branches in subobject element mode. then detach these to a new object and you would be left with the leaves - like i said, time consuming. or you could download the latest demo and open/texture them there and then export to your version? probitas
Hi - Wondering if you were able to fix the mapping problems with xfrog tree models... I've also downloaded the models from Seek, and I'm using Max 2010, having a similar problem. When I open a single xfrog plant everything looks fine. Of course, when trying to merge or xref another plant into the same scene, no textures appear - the plant is white. I'm new to Max, so perhaps there's something obvious that I'm missing...? any advice on how to fix this?
Derek Forreal
in the Material Editor have you pressed the 'Show Map in Viewport' button for the relevant materials? try that OR: you may need to set up a path to the folder where the textures are to be found. Customize -> Configure User Paths -> External Files there you need to ADD a path to the folder where your xfrog textures are. you may need to close/reopen the file for the changes to take effect (or you can try refreshing the viewport) HTH
