Diamond studded logo in 3DS?

I'm doing some video trailers in AE, but I need (I was asked) to do this logo with effect like its diamond/zirconium studded.

 

Yes it sounds tackier than hell but what can I do.

 

This is what I've found on google - and I need to do something similar to that

So what would be my way around doing this in 3DS? Any directions where should I look, any advices how to start...

 

I'm planning on inserting the 3D avi rendered animation in the AE, and basically the animation of the "diamond studded logo" will be a simple fly by or something like that, nothing complicated.
