wine cave

Here is something I literally did in less then 6 hours for a panicked client. I'm not sure if I will ever "finish" it, but the renderings served their purpose. I liked the shape of this cave. (Most wine caves have more of a standard rounded tube look.) I figure this will be a WIP forever!

I would not use a shallow DOF in the foreground for those particular views. If this were an actual photograph, the photographer would avoid doing that by using a tripod and a smaller aperature. The shallow DOF draws attention to the wrong part of the image.

Yes! I agree. I did that because for 2 reasons:

1. I wanted to keep the image looking a little "mystic" to keep the client from feeling like this design is set in stone. I find that a little DOF helps with that.

2. I wanted to hide some imperfections that I did not have time to fix close to the camera.

The DOF was done in post production as a last ditch effort 2 min before the meeting. "smoke and mirrors" right?!

Thanks for the comments thought. Its good to get feedback.

I think its an admirable effort in 6hrs. I would agree with Jeff on the DOF. However, if you are sure you want to use it, I would do a couple of other things to make it feel at home. Add some grain in post and rotate your camera slightly. This will not make it a better image, but it will make the image look like a photograph taken by an amateur photographer!

Yeah, I find that many of my small projects like this have such short deadlines and clients have such short fuses that there often is not enough time to tweak things or try alternatives. Its like you hurry, get it out the door and when the dust settles, you look back at the work and wish you could have done this or that to make it better if you just had an extra day or an extra 12 hours for rendering time. I feel lucky that most of my clients who I do this for understand the time limitations and are still more than happy with the result, even thought I might not be.

NICE! I like the over saturation of color. The only problem: I can hear the client already saying " can you make it look like the cave is not sideways?" hahahah

Totally! However, just shows that with a little tweaking heree and there without a buffoon to please you can make this a portfolio piece with relatively little effot. Bling up the materials a bit, add some imagination and alls good. After all, its nice refined subject matter and thats half the battle with getting a portfolio piece to look sterling.

Indeed. The only voice I like to hear is my own. I wish the whole forum would just be quiet and listen to me.....

Just kidding, I thought you'd missed my post. And Im bored. Very bored. Watching renders (yawn). And writing crap. And more crap.
