isaac_cm
hello, I was modeling a chair and I tried to model the back legs and begin extrude faces by selecting the first editable poly in the stack - I have the stack like this : edit poly , tubosmooth, edit poly , tubosmooth (see pic) but the problem when I select the last turbosmooth in the stack the model get missed up (see pic) any advice ? thanks
dean@pikcells
your problem is you have an odd looking stack. i wouldnt have 2 turbo smooths, and not in that order if i needed to. what is the 2nd edit poly modifier doing? when you modify the lowest edit poly, it will mess up and edit polys further up your stack. isaac_cm
the second one for adding a crease to the chair, the order I use is the same used by the digital tutor instructor I dont think he is doing wrong - but you did not tell me how you use turbo smooth. dean@pikcells
ok, i only add turbo smooths after all the edit polys. you need to make your extrudes first, then add your crease, then turbo smooth.
isaac_cm
I will have to delete all modifiers in the stack and redo the work, is there any other way ? Thanks
dean@pikcells
just delete your turbo smooths, so you just have a basemesh. then convert to edit poly so your creases are there. then start extruding.
isaac_cm
ok thanks but why the model behave like this , why not retain the same shape is it a defect with Max ??
dean@pikcells
no its not a defect. its because your 2nd modifier is dependent on the edit modifier below it. for example, if you extrude a face in the 2nd edit poly, then go back to the 1st edit poly, and delete that face, how would the 2nd edit poly extrude that face? ok, this is a very simple way of explaining it, and its more complicated than that, but it's a logical way of working.
